Graduate Student Opportunities
If you are a current or prospective M.S. or Ph.D. student at Texas A&M interested in conducting research in our group, please send your resume and interests to Dr. Cooper (macoope@tamu.edu) for more information.
Prospective graduate students are encouraged to apply to Mechanical Engineering Graduate Program before the deadline (typically mid-January). The home department of this lab is Mechanical Engineering. We are also able to accept students from the Materials Science and Engineering department.
At this time, we are seeking motivated students for have research opportunities in the areas of dynamic material response of heterogeneous/composite materials, diagnostic development for high-speed events, and ignition of reactive materials. US citizenship is necessary in most cases due to sponsor requirements.
We also support graduate students who are interested in applying for external research opportunities. Such opportunities are available through different programs including:

- National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship
- Hertz Graduate Fellowship
- DOD SMART
- NASA STRF

There are different ways to conduct research for summer semesters or during the academic year. Formal undergraduate research programs at Texas A&M include the Engineering Honors program, the Undergraduate Summer Research Grant, and the Undergraduate Research Scholars program.
